Frequently Asked Questions

What should our family expect during the first session?

Every clinician has a different style and approach; however the following can be used as a guide to know what to expect in the first session.

  • In general, the first session is used to gather history about the initial concerns, get to know you and your family and help determine if that clinician would be the best fit for you or your child.

  • For Child focused sessions, clinician’s generally prefer to begin the session with the family (parents and child) and then split the remaining session between the child and parents (if appropriate).

  • For Parent Training/Support, the clinician typically uses the first session to gather history, explore concerns and develop a treatment plan.
